Overview
This guide explains how to upgrade a Windows 11 Home installation to Windows 11 Pro when you have purchased a valid Windows 11 Pro product key.
The process uses Microsoft's generic Windows 11 Pro upgrade key to switch the installed edition from Home to Pro. Once the upgrade is complete, you can activate Windows using your purchased Windows 11 Pro license key.
Steps
- Turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect your computer from the internet.
- Open Settings > System > Activation.
- Select Change product key.
- Enter the Microsoft generic Windows 11 Pro upgrade key:
VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T - Select Next and follow the prompts to start the edition upgrade.
- The upgrade process will begin and Windows may restart automatically.
- If you receive an error during the process, restart the computer and allow the upgrade to continue.
- After the restart, verify that Windows now shows Windows 11 Pro under Activation settings.
- Reconnect to Wi-Fi or turn your internet connection back on.
- Return to Settings > System > Activation.
- Select Change product key again.
- Enter the Windows 11 Pro product key that you purchased.
- Follow the prompts to activate Windows.
- Confirm that Windows reports an activated Windows 11 Pro license.
